I just read today's email from democrats.com to all us "aggressive progressives" urging us to sign John Edwards' petition in favor of the the Democrats' strategy in Iraq.
Cutting off funding for the troops in Iraq (and even talking about it) is irresponsible. Putting conditions on the way money is spent there is irresponsible. The Congress doesn't dictate foreign policy, and it doesn't act as Commander-in-chief in wartime.

Pelosi sure think she dictates our foreign policy. I.e., her "trip".
11 Republican members of Congress pleaded Monday with President Bush and his senior aides to change course in Iraq.
The group of Republicans led by Reps. Mark Kirk (R-IL), Charlie Dent (R-PA), Ray LaHood (R-IL) met with Bush, Robert Gates, Condoleezza Rice, Karl Rove, and Tony Snow.
A Republican congressman said, “The word about the war and its progress cannot come from the White House or even you, Mr. President. There is no longer any credibility. It has to come from Gen. Petraeus.”
Not even Republicans trust Bush....

But their request, and they are certainly entitled to request whatever they want, doesn't exactly square with Bush leading on the issue.
