Many folks (mainly Democrats supporting Barack Obama for president) are eager to see the Rev. Wright story in the rear-view mirror. I, on the other hand, don't care about guarding Obama's political image, so I think it is worthwhile to answer the question, What is the big deal with Reverend Wright?
First, it certainly matters what is being taught at the church that a candidate attends. Especially if the candidate has been attending the church for 20 years, and especially if the candidate has emphasized the impact that said church has had on his/her life.
Second, Wright was certainly the heart, soul and voice of the church he pastored. And I think it is pretty clear that Wright (as well as Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago) adheres to Black Liberation Theology. So it is worthwhile--heck, it is essential in considering this matter, to ascertain what BLT is.
Here is what seems to be a good article about Black Liberation Theology. To non-Christians a consideration of BLT may seem like inside baseball. To secularists taking any person's religious views too seriously--unless that person is a Religious Conservative, of course ;)--might seem like a waste of time. Oh well. I kind of believe that a person's worldview is very important--especially if a person claims to have carefully chosen his worldview.

If you are black you are RACIST that’s that. Seen it every step of the way. If you disagree with me ask yourself this, when was the last time something happened to a black by ANY other race and the black person was actually wrong; in your opinion? When was the last time the black wasn't completely perfect and a victim? Especially if what happened to them did in fact happen to them while committing a crime. You dont wait for the fact to see what happened. You wait for the facts to pervert everything to your argument. Even when others tell you your wrong. As a matter of fact when was the last time someone of another race told you, you were wrong and it WASN'T because they were racists? Just for the record, who on God's green Earth put blacks in charge of deciding who qualifies as a racist and who doesn't. The MAJORITY of blacks don’t have any say in their own lives. Ask them they'll tell you, it's all the White Man & the Jews. These are the people you want deciding who qualifies as what and who doesn’t. I say it should be the majority of America making this decision. Unfortunately majority usually equals "White" and therefore obviously EVIL. This is Democracy. Majority rules is the actual definition of Democracy. MINORITY RULES is the definition of FASCISM!!!! Just cause your black doesn’t mean you can’t qualify as a Nazi. that’s what the Nazis were………. Fascists.
America believed Hitler would eventually attack the USA. He didn’t but his beliefs and way of life did.
Now remember the most important part of all of this, if you are black, all you have to say is the White Man is the real racist here. That’s all you have to say to be right

I find it interesting that articles just today have Obama saying he would have left the church if Wright whose history of comments go back as far at 9/11 didn't resign. For a man who claims he will bring change to the Whitehouse that was certainly the Washington 2 step. Let me understand his logic. He's gone to the church for 20 years, had this man marry him and his wife, baptise his children, gives him credit for the title of his second book, and asks him to be a campaign adviser but he suddenly doesn't agree with his views. Or could it be he doesn't agree with his views now that main stream America has seen and disagreed with them? Maybe its just me but it wouldn't take me 20 years to decide I didn't agree with someone and then choose not to associate with that individual. But if we check Obama's voting history in the Senate we find that this is a pattern for him. He's a great orator with a message that resonates with people but there is little substance in that. For substance look at what he's done for the last few decades and the people he has associated with
