Bankruptcy binge

This story reports that the number of bankruptcies being filed is shattering prior records in the face of a tightening up of current law on Monday. I think that bankruptcy has its place in a society, but only if the law/system is not so lax that irresponsible or spendthrift persons can declare themselves bankrupt and then return to irresponsible or spendthrift habits.
