I think Gingrich is right

From today's TheHill.com:
Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) said Sunday that Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal “would be far and away the best candidate” to appear on the Republican presidential ticket with Sen. John McCain (Ariz.).

I also agree that we need to Drill here and drill now.

Hi Ned,

I like Gov. Jindal but I think the jury's still out on whether he is the best of the VP pack. Driving back from Baton Rouge on Friday, I was listening to local talk radio. The big news was that the legislature was looking to triple their pay (would that I could do that so easily...). The governor was on the record as saying that if the legislature passed the pay increase, he would not veto it because it was strictly a legislative issue. Naturally the folks were outraged by what appears to be a real lack of leadership.

The 2008 GOP VP is going to be the 2012 GOP candidate. We should be very sure that we pick not judt the right person to get McCain over the line but the one to take us all the way through 2020.

For what it's worth my favs are Gov. Sarah Palin (R-AK) and JC Watts.

I hear you, Char, and I'm glad you commented.

Wow. 300% increase? That does sound like a big ol' softball issue that Jindal should pulverize, but his principled restraint (not necessarily on this issue) is one of his strengths in my opinion.

Palin is definitely intriguing, and Watts has proven charisma and talent. Given McCain's age, his choice of VP is definitely more of an issue of picking our future leadership. That being said, looking at our last handful of VPs reflects that the VP role might (appropriately) be merely the President's back up and right-hand-"man."
