Those un-mean-spirited folks at TinyCatPants

Well, I've been mixing it up with some of the folks over at TinyCatPants the past few days ("Brief Aside" « Tiny Cat Pants). Essentially, this fight spun off of a post at MusicCityBloggers where I wondered aloud whether the GOP's ascendancy in the South may have been somewhat related to the "social," anti-military, pro-USSR radicalism of the 60s era Democratic Party as opposed to the notorious (among Libs) Nixonian/GOP/racist "Southern Strategy." The gang at TinyCatPants are incredulous.

But tonight I came upon this profound post about how the Democrats' own Southern Strategy could help them reclaim the South. And it provides an interesting perspective on what motivates Black Americans to vote Democratic.

Hat tip, SayUncle.

Pretty bizarre. Don't cast pearls before swine. Smantix and I already had a discussion about that. Southern whites left the Democratic party fairly recently. My father, a working-class union guy, voted Democratic till he died in the Eighties. They all did. My county, far from urban, still goes for a Democratic congressman. The Democrats controlled Georgia until a few short years ago. And one could argue all the Yankee transplants helped push it to Republican. So much for Southern "racists." And Tennessee ... well, speaks for itself. Republicans are still struggling for control here, and the ones who go to Washington are more like Democrats.

Well, you know, Donna, all the people that Left the Democratic Party did so because they--those doing the leaving, were racists.
